Regional Influence
Article by Chelsea Roper
There is a unique voice growing within regional Australia, a new type of online influence. With the rise of social media, everyday people have been able to build engaged online communities, connecting with people across the country and even the world. And you’ll find them right here in the regions; innovating, building businesses, creating engaging content, and sharing their day to day. With regional people making up over a third of Australia’s population, it’s an exciting time for our voices to be heard.
Regional creators and innovators are launching businesses that champion Aussie-grown food and fibre, and are making the most of the luxury of stunning landscapes and visuals right at the tips of their fingers. But most importantly, they have created engaged online communities that are built on trust, genuine connection, and the ability to share their story as if they are sitting down to chat with a mate.
From farming, to podcasting, to creating their own fashion labels, here are three regional influencers you should be keeping an eye on.
Holly Goodman
From a beef cattle property in Northern NSW, Holly Goodman has launched more than a few successful businesses. Holly champions regional business as she knows exactly what goes on behind the scenes to make a brand shine. For small businesses, she understands that most of the time it’s a one-person show. From providing advice on how to harness online influence, her beautiful children’s and women’s clothing label Peter Bill, and her regular updates on her favourite small businesses, Holly is the go-to for all things regional small business.
Katrina Myers
When she’s not working on her sustainable avocado farm in Barham NSW, or getting her luxury farm retreat ready for the next explorer from the city, you’ll find Katrina Myers facilitating meditation workshops, and hosting a podcast or two. A true go-getter, Katrina’s energy shines through her online profile, and you just want to be her mate. Leading with compassion, kindness and a passion for rural living, Katrina is the sunshine you want to see popping up in your feed.
Mark Merrett
Hailing from far western Victoria on his family’s multi-generational farm, Mark is as passionate about farming as most young people are about brunch. His YouTube channel is bursting with rural content, sharing behind the scenes footage of the day-to-day farming hustle. You can turn to Mark’s channel to see him trial the latest on-farm innovations, in between spending time with his little family. He loves being able to share an authentic look into the agriculture industry, and show that farmer’s aren’t all overalls and straw-hat wearing folk.
It’s an exciting time for regional people in the world of online influence. And in the amplification of these regional voices, we not only celebrate the movers and shakers that champion this lifestyle, but we build online communities that are rooted in authenticity, and content that resonate with the regional and rural experience.
